Vauxhall Vivaro / Renault trafic, Primastar (Limp Mode) fix
Vauxhall Vivaro / Renault trafic, Primastar (Limp Mode) fix
Just a quick tip for all those suffering from occasional or even regular limp mode problems. This is worth doing before booking you Vivaro, Trafic or Primastar into any diagnostic garage and can / did save me a fortune…..
My van has been doing this for years. After replacing the DPF and a few sensors as advised after having it plugged onto ODB readers at the garage, the thing just kept on flagging up errors and limp modes.
When recently I replaced the gearbox ( Many thanks Ian Peck) the repair is sweeeeet. I cleaned up the earth straps ( as often mentioned with intermittent faults) that connect the box to the chassis. Still to no avail it would jump into limp mode quite regularly.
A few weeks later the van refused to start with symptoms of a flat battery, so obviously i looked at the things disturbed when the gearbox was done, ie starter and earth straps. These all seemed fine but the van refused to jump start. The terminals on the battery looked as clean as new so I did not suspect that was the issue.
However when I replaced the battery I noticed the battery terminals that connect to the battery have two rings on the inside that grip the battery terminals. these were solid with white corrosion. I cleaned them up with a bit of sandpaper and a light coat of Vaseline. No limp mode in the last 2 months after hundreds an hundreds of miles ..
Hope this helps some of you out there…
Happy new year to you all
