Mini Boot floor and battery box repairs
Mini inner wing repairs
Now the mini shell is on it’s belly again. I will start the inner wing repairs before re-fitting the front panels.
The top edge of the Near side inner wing needed some attention as did the lower part, near the suspension rubber cones.
Next is the Off side inner wing. I hope to get the done this weekend and crack on with fitting A-panels, Wings and the front panel.
Mini front panel repairs and fitting
At this point I was able to mock up the Mini’s front end panels (A-panel, wings, front panel)
once i was happy with the fitment ( this took a lot of fettling and tweaking) I was able to begin welding the parts on .
Then the body was flipped on it’s side and all seams were given a coat of Tiger seal sealant. Then a coat of Gratitex paintable stonechip was applied
The next job is to apply the top colour coat to the floor so the ca can be righted and the upper bodywork prepared.
The last bit of welding to do on the Mini is to attack the from scuttle and windscreen surround area. As with most classic Mini’s the area under the screen rubber seal has been attacked by the dreaded tin worm. This area is actually three panels that are spot welded together to make the lip that the screen seal sits on.Once this goes, invariably water will ingress into the car leading to damp carpets and sound deadening, musty smells and then rusty floors, MOT failures, expensive repair costs and Flintstones style views from the drivers seat.
To remove this part of the car I had to cut a section about 30cm long out of the front scuttle. This gave be access to the lip mad of the bulkhead and the top dash rail.
This is the part in question,
